Fall in the Black Hills
Beautiful spruce, pine, aspen and bur oak cover the area along with abundant wildlife. The Department of Game, Fish and Parks allows hunting on three-fourths of the area.
Small Game. South Dakota is known world-wide for pheasant hunting, with hunters harvesting over one million roosters a season. The state is also home to small game such as quail, grouse and rabbit. Hunters can also be licensed to hunt waterfowl.
Big Game. The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks works to manage populations through licensed hunting of antelope, deer, elk, turkey, bighorn sheep, and mountain lions.
Fishing. Local streams, rivers, and lakes are home to brown and rainbow trout, walleye, bass, perch, and northern pike.
